It’s no secret that enterprise organizations the world over are turning to cloud hosting in one fashion or another. Whether they opt for a private, public, or hybrid-cloud solution, managed service providers (MSPs) are finding that more and more of their current customer base, as well as potential clients, want the ability to choose between available platforms.

In a recent survey of IT managers by SADA Systems, 84% have turned to a public cloud infrastructure as opposed to traditional corporate data centers. This past November, Cisco released a white paper in which they predicted that by 2020, 92% of all data center network traffic would be cloud traffic.

As such, the number of enterprise organizations migrating to the cloud is continuing to increase. Why? Because in most cases, the cloud offers the most secure, flexible, and cost-effective solution. Migrating not only saves money on IT staffing, it bestows organizations with the ability for almost instant scaling of any online platform or solution.

MSPs that are only able to provide one platform option, such as either Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure, are not only pigeonholing themselves and their clients, they’re missing numerous opportunities for diversifying their service offerings.

Unfortunately, it is rather time-consuming and expensive for MSPs to completely train-up and certify their teams across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Thankfully, strategic partnerships today provide unique opportunities for providers of all sizes to immediately expand their offerings without the normal prerequisites.

We’ll discuss that partnership opportunity in more detail a little later in this article, but first, we want to talk about why organizations are turning to GCP, and what they expect from their MSP provider.

Initial Advantages

Many organizations like the fact that with GCP they’re ensured a high-level of redundancy, have granular control over their servers and also have the ability to tweak their hosting environment. These features help make their sites and applications faster, secure, more stable, and completely isolated.

GCP provides clients with access to one of the world’s largest networks and by utilizing live migrations of virtual machines, Google can ensure less downtime as well. But there are even more advantages that are enticing your clients to seriously consider GCP.

1 – Service Offerings — Google Cloud offers a multitude of services and products. From their Compute Engine to cloud storage, server database services, and the incomparable Vision AI, as well as basics like App Engine, DNS, CDN, and so much more. Clients want GCP because it offers the features they need today, as well as tomorrow.

2 – Better Pricing — With minute-level increments and just a 10-minute minimum requirement, clients only pay for the compute time they actually use. An added bonus in this area is that GCP provides discounted prices for long-running workloads without a required up-front commitment. Compared to both AWS and Azure which require prepayment for any sort of discount, Google is the perfect answer for startups as well as enterprise ITs looking to reduce costs.

3 – Superior Network — GCP’s network is one of the biggest in the world and has a private distributed backbone between all of their data centers. Google has invested heavily in the FASTER cable system that gives them access to 10-Terabits per second (Tbit/s) of the cable’s total 60Tbit/s bandwidth between Japan and the U.S. In July of last year, Google announced their first private trans-Atlantic subsea cable, known as “Dunant.” Crossing the Atlantic Ocean from the French Atlantic coast and landing in the U.S. in Virginia Beach, this cable is expected to become available late next year. Naturally, speed means less cost for your customers as the speed provides them the ability to process more data in less time.

4 – Tiered Network Offering — Google provides either a standard or premium tier network. With the standard tier, outbound traffic from the Google Cloud is delivered to the Internet over ISP networks as opposed to Google’s own network. Clients that opt for the premium tier have their traffic delivered via Google’s low latency, well-provisioned and highly reliable global network. With this option, Google utilizes at least three independent paths (N+2 redundancy) in order to help ensure that traffic continues to flow between the locations, even in the event of a disruption.

5 – Virtual Machine Live Migration — Neither AWS nor Azure offer live migration of Virtual Machines, but GCP does. For application and website hosting providers, this means no downtime while live migrating VMs between host machines.  Additionally, there will be no noticeable degradation in performance. Live migrations enable Google engineers to better address issues such as software and hardware patching, repairing, and updating, without the need for machine reboots by the client.

This is just a small sampling of the benefits of GCP and why more and more enterprise organizations are looking for MSPs that can provide this solution. Improved performance, state of the art security, redundant backups, and continued worldwide expansion are also huge draws for companies of all sizes, and smart MSPs are adding Google Cloud to their platform offerings.
